CHRISNA VAN DER MERWE Exe[cut]ive chef

Chrisna van der Merwe, the Executive Chef of Gar'nish, received her Chefs Training at the Institute of Culinary Art (ICA) in Stellenbosch. She did her practical year at some of South Africa's most renowned Restaurants and Hotels, which includes Restaurant Bonthuys, under the well-known chef Etienne Bonthuys and The Grand Roche Hotel. She also spend four months in Germany while doing practical at a Four Star Hotel and Weinstube. During this period she completed and received her Diploma in the Certificate Wine Course at the Cape Wine Academy.

After her studies the Grand Roche Hotel where she worked as Chef de Partie Grand Manger, Chef de Partie Poissonnier, and Chef de Partie Patissier permanently employed her. Three seasons later she started working as Head Chef at the Five Star Lodge Grootbos, near Hermanus. After two years she took up the head chef position at Jangamo Beach Resort, Inhambane Mozambique. Here she also started a training program in Culinary Art. While running the program they started cooking privately for numerous clients from Europe and South Africa, in the comfort of the clients private Villa.
